I debated on if I wanted to blog about High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS) because in the marketing world…any publicity is good publicity. The Corn Refiner’s Association are already spending $30million on a campaign to convince the public that there is nothing wrong with consuming high fructose corn syrup (makes me wonder the last time I saw a commercial on the benefits of eating more fruits for my daily dose of sugar).

There are a lot of arguments from both sides of the fence and it makes you wonder who is right? You hear a lot of these arguments – one camp says that raw milk is nature’s perfect food and another camp says that any dairy is bad for you and the Dairy Association will have you believe that pasteurized dairy is much needed in one’s diet. This can get all very confusing, even for the most savvy of healthy eaters.

Here is how I look at any controversial piece of information: who is to gain by leading a campaign for or against any product?

One of the reactions I get when I tell people that I am a nutritional consultant is fear. Nine times out of ten people think I'm the food Nazi and nine times out of ten people think I'm perfect. I'm not.

So I thought it would be appropriate if I showed you who are interested in leading a healthier lifestyle that I too struggle with it on a daily basis. I don't believe it when people say it's easy...I have never found it to be so. It is a choice, every time. As a result, there is going to be a section on this blog where I recount my successes and also my mishaps of leading a healthy lifestyle so hopefully it'll give you ideas on what to do or what not to do, what will fit and what won't fit into your lifestyle...

Today was a tough one.

Continue reading "Healthy Eating as an Entrepreneur"

A new legislation was introduced on June 12, 2008 called Dietitian/Nutritionist Licensing Act...well not new -a version of this was vetoed by Governor Whitman.

It now rears its ugly head again. Now maybe I wouldn't be so opposed to an Bill that provided legitimacy if it wasn't so ADA centric. Bills like this have been passed in other states before and the fallout of it was felt for many years later. Do we really want the same fate to happen in NJ? Read on for what happened in Ohio...points are still relevant today.

Continue reading "Dietitian/Nutritionist Licensing Act Introduced in NJ"
As a holistic health practitioner and having a background in marketing and investments I have the unfortunate (or fortunate) knowledge of knowing that sometimes things just aren't as they appear to be.

The American Dietetic Association - or ADA - which is viewed as the "leading authority" on nutrition by the public...is well...I wonder how influenced by the sponsorships and monies they receive from the food industry.
Continue reading "The American Dietetic Association...and its associations..."
